The call of the wind, waves, and water life.  On a cold winter's day images of warm sand and blazing sun is all most can think about. Anyone who loves sea life knows that snorkeling equipment can make dreams of seeing coral  reef up close and personal a reality. Heck, maybe even a dolphin or two.

Like any sporting equipment purchase there are a host of things to consider when buying snorkeling gear. The gear for snorkeling is comprised of three main pieces: a snorkel, some fins, and a protective mask. It's a fairly simple water sport to undertake and the cost is minimal.

The mask is the most protective and essential piece of equipment in the trio of snorkeling gear. A mask that doesn't adhere to the face correctly will allow water to fill up inside the mask. Also, it will affect how much beautiful sea life can be viewed. The most typical mask difficulty is due to hair getting tangled around the edges. Making sure hair is secured back out of the way of the mask can enhance a snorkeling excursion greatly.

Snorkels are not all created equally, so choose wisely. A snorkel that contains a valve at the top can be beneficial in keeping a diver from breathing in dreaded salt water. The decision to buy a non-flex or flex snorkel may be easy depending on how dry you want your snorkel to remain. A flex snorkel usually stays the driest. Most snorkels don't fill up with alot of water unless one dives deeply under the water or if the snorkel gets caught sideways. Average snorkels range between $11.00 (sale priced) and $45.00.

Fins are essential foot protection when flitting about with the underwater world. Proper fitting fins can make all the difference in the world between a fun or a flop of an experience.
